Before you begin this assignment, please be sure to review the materials from Week 4 on the syllabus.

Please answer all of the questions listed below. Each question should be answered in at minimum 1-2 paragraphs. All answers must be written in complete sentences. Your answers should include specific examples from the articles and speeches you are analyzing and from the readings and course lectures.

These questions ask students to analyze the assigned sections from the novel, No-No Boy and the memoir Beyond Loyalty.

Please answer the following questions:

  • Please describe the Japanese American incarceration/internment that occurred in the US during WWII and the factors that led to it.
  • How did the U.S. government and society question the loyalty of Japanese Americans in the U.S. during WW II? (Please discuss two examples of how their loyalty was questioned.)
  • How did the differing backgrounds of Japanese Americans (Issei, Nisei, and Kibei) impact their responses to Japanese American incarceration?
