Understand student diversity, how to apply this knowledge to promote learning for all students, and how to foster students’ appreciation of and respect for diversity within and beyond the classroom.

Community Engagement and Ecological Experience (20%)

 

All candidates will be required to choose an educative site to experience and then generate a 2 – 3 page report on the experience. This report should not only detail the experience but relate the experience to course content (especially relating to ecological theory) and other educational constructs and ideas. Choices include (1) the Albany Civil Rights Museum; (2) a local school board meeting; and (3) a Brown Bag lecture. Appropriate APA citation methods are required.

Instructions

Candidates should select at least one of the options listed above to visit (virtually or physically). They will take notes during their experience. Candidates will use their notes to write a 2-3 page paper in APA style with a minimum of five peer-reviewed references. This paper will describe what they observed within the context of Urie Brofenbrenner’s Ecological Theory. Students should use one of their research days to explore this theory to be used in this assignment.
