What is the reference information?

Research Review

In preparation for this writing assignment, you are required to submit a worksheet that shows you have selected an appropriate article, have read the article, and have determined that it includes the appropriate information to complete the assignment.

This worksheet should be done carefully. If you complete this worksheet and determine that your article is lacking sufficient information, you must select a different article to review. This assignment is designed to assist you with pulling out the appropriate information, but if the information is not there, you will not be able to complete the full writing assignment successfully.

Database used (e.g., Criminal Justice Abstracts, Sage: Criminology):

  2. What is the reference information?
    1. Title of the article:
    2. Author:
    3. Title of the journal where the article is published:
    4. Journal Volume, Issue, Pages:
    5. Year of publication:
    6. What is the main theoretical issue or what theory is being tested?
    7. What are the hypotheses?
    8. What are the variables?
    9. What is the Dependent Variable (should be crime or delinquency) and how is this measured
    10. What are the theoretical or independent variables, and how are these measured? (these are the theoretical constructs that explain crime or delinquency)
    11. What are the conclusions of this research?
    12. What makes this good research? Bad research? With this, think about the source of the data, what the data are actually measuring, and if the conclusions seem to be reasonable or if they are based upon possibly spurious relationships.
    13. Has this research given you any ideas for how the research could be extended or replicated? (Think about this for your ability to write about directing future research and add this to your overall conclusion section of the final paper.)
    14. How could this research be used to inform criminal justice policy?
