For this assignment, each student will sign up to do a 10 minute presentation on an American collector from the 19th or early 20th century.
In the course of your presentation, please cover the following information:
- Brief biography, including where their money comes from!
- What are the major trends found in their collection? Generally, what kinds of objects did they like to collect?
- Where did they display their collection? Where is their collection now? Did they end up founding a museum or donating their artworks to an existing museum? Or were the artworks sold after their death? Inherited by a family member?
- Why do you think they collected what they did?
- Show three works of art/objects from their collection that could be considered the most representative examples of trends in their collecting.
- What ethical issues does this collection bring up?
