Developmental or Forensic Psychology

Critically discuss the limitations of Psychology as a discipline, and how knowing these limitations can help us better design research to tackle real-world issues within developmental or forensic psychology.

Guidance:

First reflect on the limitations of psychology as discipline, as discussed in lecture 4, discuss the limitations and strengths of psychological research. And then reflect on the potential benefits of integrating other disciplines into the scope of discussion/investigation. In these discussions, you can use specific piece of research as examples to do your detailed critical analyses.

Then choose a real-world issue to focus on for your essay, which can be any social issue in developmental and/or forensic psychology (such as child development during pandemic, child abuse, criminal justice etc…) that you are passionate about as an example to further discuss how the limitations you discussed in the previous section can help you better address this issue.

In your discussion of the chosen issue of interest, make sure you start with a brief overview of the issue; discuss the challenges, and critically review the existing research around it, and offer new ways of future research ideas for improvement (informed by other multidisciplinary work).
