PAUL’S POST:
The mission of the Montefiore Health System (2021) is ” to heal, to teach, to discover and to advance the health of the communities we serve,” and the vision is “to be a premier academic medical center that transforms and enriches lives.” My project aligns with this mission and vision by showing how innovations in patient care, such as chlorhexidine bathing, improve the care that is delivered to our patients and improves patient outcomes by decreasing the rate of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI).
The Mckinsey Influence Model uses four building blocks for change. Fostering understanding and conviction will be done by educating nurses on how and why CHG can be beneficial in increasing rates of CLABSI. Reinforcing with formal mechanisms will be done by presenting evidence to nursing staff and reminding staff to do CHG baths during shift-change huddles. Developing talent and skills will be done once nurses adopt this change and make it a standard of their practice. Finally, role modeling is when nurses begin to mimic the actions of one another.
