In the last chapter of Hesse’s novel, “Govinda,” Siddhartha reunites with Govinda. Throughout the chapter, Siddhartha tries to express to Govinda all that he has discovered over the course of his life. We can view his discoveries as “life lessons.” For example: “Seeking means having a goal, but finding means being free, open having no goal” (108) “Knowledge can be expressed, but not wisdom” (110), “Time is not real” (110), “Love is the main thing” (113), “Actions are more important than words” (114), etc. etc.
For your essay, write an introduction that briefly summarizes the novel and that includes a topic regarding Siddhartha’s life lessons. For your body paragraphs, select three quotes from the last chapter that illustrate three intriguing lessons Siddhartha offers. Explain your understanding of the quote in the context of the book, and go on to state whether you agree or disagree and why. Use examples to illustrate your ideas where appropriate. Finally, write a meaningful conclusion! (3 page min.).
