Write a two to three (2–3) page report using the provided template in which you:

Imagine you work in a probation office. Your supervisor is interested in the mean monthly number of parolees the office handles. They believe the number is greater than 155. Your supervisor wants to determine if they are correct and has asked you to investigate.  If they can prove that the true monthly number of parolees is greater than 155, they can start the process of hiring another parole officer.

You collect monthly data from the past five years and then randomly sample 30 months. The results of your sample and your calculations are shown in the Excel file provided in the assignment instructions in Blackboard.

Write a two to three (2–3) page report using the provided template in which you:

  1. Construct a box-and-whisker plot for the monthly number of parolees.
  2. Copy the sample mean, median, and standard deviation for monthly number of parolees.
  3. Copy a 95% Confidence Interval for the monthly number of parolees.
  4. Conduct a hypothesis test to verify if the claim that the mean monthly number of parolees is greater than 155 is supported. Clearly state the logic of your test, the calculations, and the conclusion of your test.
  5. Provide the following discussion based on the conclusion of your test:
    1. If you conclude that there are more than 155 monthly parolees, provide three (3) possible arguments to support creating another parole officer position.

Or

  1. If you conclude that the claim of more than 155 monthly parolees is not supported or justified, provide a detailed explanation to your supervisor about why this perception might exist. Include your speculation on the reason(s) behind the claim.
