Why did you like it? How did it make you feel? What was your body’s visceral response to this recording? How could you incorporate the selection into your classroom music curriculum and environment?

(50 points)

Listening is one of the important elements of music. This assignment allows you the opportunity to experience music from a wide range of possibilities, to explore music from many cultures, and from many genres.

This assignment requires you to listen and document information on a total of 10 SONGS. Try to find interesting and unique music that you feel would be enjoyable for children and would expand their world. Three of the songs need to be from what is considered “Children’s music” or “Children’s performers,” and the other seven need to be from any other type of performers that would be appropriate for use in a classroom of young children. Each song has to be sung/performed by a different artist/group.

Please disregard the popular music that is on the Internet, radio, or TV today, and is accessible to the children already. The idea of the activity is to find appropriate music for the children that they may not have heard. I feel it is your responsibility, as the children’s caregiver, to be an advocate for their musical growth and development. Enjoy the opportunity to grow too!

This assignment should be typed and follow this format.

For each of the songs presented, document the following information:

  • Title of the song
  • Name of the Musician or Musical Group
  • Type or Genre of Music
  • Where did you find the song? (Title of CD, website, or online)
  • Write a few items about the music you heard.
    • Why did you like it? How did it make you feel? What was your body’s visceral response to this recording? How could you incorporate the selection into your classroom music curriculum and environment?
