This is a final paper and is at least a 1,000-word report on your museum experience as a whole, and a single response/ review as a piece. There are no extensions for this assignment.
Perhaps some of you have never visited a museum or gallery. This paper is intended to be a way for you to describe your experiences. Say a few words about your initial encounters (with space, other people, the architecture, etc.) Next, choose a piece to talk about, and answer the following questions.
Your answers should be in essay format, organized, and descriptive
Keep sentences short, use the right words, and avoid vagueness and clichés.
What do you see (what are you looking at)?
Inventory materials
Note scale (outer dimensions)
What is going on (in the works)?
Use correct terminology (principles and elements of art and organization, etc.)
How do the visual elements relate to one another?
In what way is this work unique, different, or unusual?
Referring to the time surrounding the work (if different in approach/ look/ etc.)
Referring to how/ why it is different or unique to you
Why might some visual elements appear in the same scene?
What has the artist done (if anything) to play with your (our) perception?
What messages might this work have for us today?
In what ways can the work about the past, now or forever?
What do you think you would title this work, and give your interpretation of what do you believe will happen next?
In what ways do you think this work is important? Is there some kind of morality to the work? How can this work be about reality, and whose reality at that?
