James Joyce’s “Counterparts”: Try to frame your essay around one or more of the critical approaches discussed in lecture.

Using James Joyce’s “Counterparts” or “Eveline,” find an angle to expand on and analyze in the work. Try to frame your essay around one or more of the critical approaches discussed in lecture. Think about what deeper meaning you can extract from the text, what it says about the human experience in literature, and why it matters. Use keywords.

Length and Content: Your essay should include a title, brief summary introducing the text, thesis and implications, topic sentences, claims, evidence, textual analysis, analysis of implications, and a conclusion. This essay should be no less than 500 words (that is very minimal, and I expect it to be more to truly have substance) and no more than 850 words. Use academic, formal language and correct English grammar. Plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated. You must use topic sentences and guide your reader.

Format: Please single space your paper, use 11 or 12 pt. font in a Sans Serif typeface (Arial, Calibri, Helvetica, Tw Cen MT, etc.), use line breaks rather than indentation to separate paragraphs. (Microsoft Word automatically uses this format for you.) Cite quotations and references using MLA citation format, format your heading and page numbers in MLA Style, include an MLA Works Cited page with the story you chose in MLA Citation Style. Use only one space after periods. Margins should be 1in. Use footnotes rather than endnotes. Double space between the title and the first line of the text. Follow MLA guidelines except for what I have noted to be different.
