Like many states, Nevada elects its judges (whereas federal court judges are appointed). What are the advantages and disadvantages of electing judges? Consider the federal judicial process whereby federal judges are nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate and serve for life. Would you like to see Nevada use appointments instead of elections to select its judges? In 2010 Nevada voters failed to support a ballot initiative that would have amended the Constitution to create a process whereby judges are appointed by the Governor from a list vetted by outside assessors.
