Discuss the differences between “Sixties Soul” and “Seventies Soul” music, in terms of the sound, the look, the style, and the purpose. Be descriptive.
You should consider what you have read, heard and seen in class, and elsewhere.
You may discuss one or two artists as they made the artistic transition from one decade to the next. What changes took place, and why did these artists make the changes?
TYPE your answers, (double-spaced, one-inch margins, size 12 font, black ink) and your answers should be around 5oo words (two typed pages in length) for eachquestion. Each essay should be in-depth, should go beyond what the question is asking, and involve larger issues involving black music, culture and history.
Remember to give examples whenever possible, to give as much detail as you can, reference your sources, and to make sense. You should include TWO referenced sources per essay. Provide a list of sources at the end of each essay. (Any referencing stycgole is ok – Chicago, MLA, etc)
