Social integration and cohesion is the central theme in Durkheim’s work. Durkheim claims that in order to thrive individuals need a certain level of group attachment. As social creatures much of our sense of meaning , reality and purpose comes from having strong interpersonal ties.
Using Durkheim’s concepts explain how the basis of social cohesion in modernity has evolved from mechanical to organic solidarity.
Make sure to include discussion of anomie and the ways modern individuals strive to overcome it. Provide concrete examples whenever possible.
