Preparation
Prepare 40 preschool Dolch sight words flashcards. They are the words students need to learn by sight to become fluent readers
Introduction (10 Minutes)
Explain to the students that to become fluent readers; they must recognize these words.
Use your flashcards to introduce the words to students. Show the cards, see if any student knows the word, reinforce correct answers given and state the word’s meaning if needed.
Explicit instruction (20 Minutes)
Break up the sight words list into manageable chunks for students to learn few words at a time.
Provide students with enough cover stock to create their flashcards featuring each word, copying the words from your flashcard.
Guided Practice (20 Minutes)
Have each student write a sentence with any sight words and share them to identify the sight words used.
Set the timer to 15 minutes
Independent Working (10 Minutes)
Instruct each student to write at least ten sentences with different sight words
Differentiation
Enrichment: Have the students write a short story about their favorite movie and identify the sight words in the story.
Support: identify the students with the problem of identifying sight words and explain more to each.
Assessment (10 Minutes)
Assess each student individually on their ability to write and identify sight words in a sentence.
Review and Closing (10 Minutes)
Select each student at a time and have them select a sight word of choice and construct a sentence using the selected words.
