One Minute Paper: Response to Panel Discussion
The purpose of a Brief Reflection Paper (sometimes called a “one minute paper”) is to give you an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to link some of the key course concepts learned so far to the analysis of a specific topic. You don’t need to be an expert on the topic; you just need to be able to offer some informed thoughts and opinions based in our work together in class.
They’re sometimes called One Minute Papers, because they should only take a minute (really more like 3 or 4) for me to read. You will obviously take longer to write it. It should be no more than a page (8.5” X 11”, double-spaced with 12pt font and one inch margins) and be entirely original. You don’t need to use formal referencing when referring to course concepts or materials nor do you need full introductory paragraphs or conclusions. You should also be able to answer the questions without giving details of your background that you are not comfortable with or that may not be appropriate to share, but you can speak in “broad strokes.”
Topic: We were fortunate to hear from a number of Social Service Worker professionals during the panel discussion.
- Discuss one thing you heard from a panelist that was “Ah-ha” moments for you (a moment of insight or clarity). For this moment, please: state specifically what you heard that caught your attention. What shifted in your thinking and/or feeling? And as is relevant, how did this moment connect to your own social location?
- For this “Ah-ha” moment, in what ways will your new insight inform your search for a placement and/or future job opportunities? How might this new insight inform your practice differently?
