Using the media as a disaster warning system comes with many weaknesses. People may not be watching tv or listening to the radio during the event of a hazard or disaster. Power outages may also interrupt warnings through the media. Information given through the media isn’t always correct. Errors in the system can prevent certain warning systems from functioning or from accurately informing people of the threat. If the warning system is mostly automatic then they could fail to detect the threat entirely. Though these systems are regularly checked and tested, they will always have weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
