In Chapter 4, Blackburn describes Nietzsche’s views of the nature of truth. One of the more provocative claims made by Nietzsche is that we must create our own meaning and purpose to our lives rather than deriving it from some transcendent source such as religious doctrines or metaphysical views about Platonic heaven, etc. Critics argue that this introduces an “anything goes” standard for those with the insight and will to forge their own values and style. Are they right? Or can Nietzsche plausibly argue that his view is not a type of moral relativism?
