Look for all 3 types of words: 1) high frequency, 2) sight words, 3) heart words. Are they specifically targeted when teaching ? Are students reading with them and/or writing with them?
If yes, which words and how many are taught each week? List the words you are calling sight words for this week of observation. How did the teacher teach them and how did you see students learning them? (ie. instructional techniques) Is there a word wall? If so, what kinds of words are present? What does it look like and how is it used?
At the end of the butterfly packet, there is a “16 step” method that is used to teach sight words. Read these steps. Complete steps 1-15. Do not complete step 16.
