Unit 2: Assignment 1 – Understanding the nervous system
Answer the following questions to the best of your ability. Remember that this is a
resource for you to study as much or more than it is an assignment to turn in for points.
Assignments will be graded on completion.
1. Draw a flow chart of the parts of the CNS and PNS, and how they are related.
2. List the types of glial cells and their functions (4 types).

3. Draw a approximation of the brain and include these structures: cerebral cortex,
basal nuclei, thalamus, hypothalamus, cerebellum, and brain stem (label the three
parts).
4. Give a brief description of the function of each of the areas drawn above.
