Treuer text: This text gives us an in-depth consideration of what it meant/means to be a Native
American in the United States mostly post-independence. However, Treuer, a member of the
Ojibwe tribe, gives us great context to consider Native peoples prior to European conquest of
North America. What was the cost (not monetary) of the subjugation/downfall of Native
peoples? Was that cost, that subjugation in anyway necessary?
How have we taught the history
of Native peoples in primary education-what did you learn-what do you remember and how has
that changed since reading the text? Was the process that the United States government
engaged in an example of a political crime or terrorism? And specifics you can provide here?
