Integrating Research-Based Support in Discussion
Throughout your program, you will be asked to support your writing with evidence-based research. The Walden Library databases provide access to thousands of primary research articles—that is, articles in which the authors conducted a scientific research study. You may also see these identified as “empirical research.” Such articles provide recent data on human services topics that you can use to apply best practices in the field or strengthen a proposal.
For this Discussion, you revisit your Week 1 Discussion to integrate research on the topic. You then consider your database search process and how the research you found informs your writing and your practice.
Review your course announcements for possible information related to this week’s Discussion and Assignment.
Return to your Week 1 Discussion your human services aspirations, goals, and interests.
Review the Learning Resources on subject research, reading articles, and using evidence.
Using the Walden Library, find one peer-reviewed article from the last 5 years that sheds light on your identified interests, future plans, etc.
Assignment
Post a revision of your Week 1 Discussion post that integrates at least one paraphrase with an APA citation from one peer-reviewed article from the last 5 years in the Walden Library. Additionally, address the following prompts:
What was your process for searching for scholarly articles? (For example: What keywords did you use, and what database did you access? Did you use the advanced search features such as Boolean operators?) What challenges did you experience, if any?
How does this new learning complicate, enrich, or support your original discussion?
How does this new information contribute to your ability to be a stronger advancchoed human services professional practitioner?
