There has been an increase in antibiotic-resistant organisms and harm to clients by taking unnecessary antibiotics. There is an effort underway by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to combat these challenges. Antibiotic stewardship is an organized plan to monitor and improve antibiotic prescription (CDC, 2021). The core elements (Links to an external site.) of the plan provide principles to guide and improve antibiotic use to increase client safety and improve outcomes across settings.
