– Understand basic psychological terminology, concepts, and theories
– Describe how biological, psychological, and social factors affect behavior
-Explain the developmental theories of Erickson, Piaget, Kohlberg, and others
– Describe possible blocks to normal growth and development at all stages
– Explain the impact on the individual and the family when individuals have not developed
along expected patterns
Instructions:
Part 1: Watch a film or documentary of your choice that deals with the impact of
technology on human relationships. Using examples from the film to support your
statements, discuss the following:
1) the impact of the “digital age” and the phenomenon of living so much of our
lives online for each life stage discussed in the film (for instance, what is the
impact on young children, teenagers, older people, etc?).
2) possible blocks to normal growth and development at various life stages (for
example, family disruptions) due to living in an increasingly wired world.
3) the impact on individuals and their families when people do not develop along
expected patterns for their life stage (for instance, the impact on relationships
when people are more used to communicating online than in person).
Part 2: Define and describe at least 4 terms, concepts, and/or theories from your assigned
class readings and how they each relate to the film. Include why you think this
information from your readings is connected to the film, using specific examples from
both the text and the film. For example, you could discuss how Erickson’s theory of the
developmental tasks for adolescence is impacted by the issues for this age group depicted
in the film.
