In this assignment, you will be working through a few examples of ANOVA and determining whether the results are statistically significant using Excel. Complete data sets for all three questions can be found within the attached Excel file. Some exercises have been adapted from online resources, but numbers have been altered, so answers will not agree.
Question 1
In the table provided for Question 1, the HIC measures of the severity of head injuries collected from crash test dummies placed in different types of vehicles. Use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that the shown car categories have the same mean.
Question 2
A researcher wishes to try three different techniques to lower the blood pressure of individuals diagnosed with high blood pressure. The subjects are randomly assigned to three groups; the first group takes medication, the second group exercises, and the third group follows a special diet. After four weeks, the reduction in each person’s blood pressure is recorded. Is there a significant difference between the techniques used to lower blood pressure, at ? If there is, use two-sample hypothesis testing on all three pairs of groups, and determine the p-values for each test. Which pair exhibits the most marked difference? Use the table for Question 3.
Question 3
Eastside Health Authority has a policy whereby any patient admitted to a hospital with a suspected coronary heart attack is automatically placed in the intensive care unit. The table for Question 4 gives the number of hours spent in intensive care by such patients at five hospitals in the area.
