For this assignment, students should write a final paper, with a culmination of their own personal theory of change. You should write a 8-10 page paper on your emerging theory. In describing your personal theory of change and counseling, you should comment on: (a) the assumptions and beliefs you hold about people’s capacity to change,
(b) the conditions that must be present to produce change,
(c) how you view the role of the counselor as a therapist,
(d) how you view the role of the client in therapy,
(e) how you view the relationship between the counselor and client,
(f) what are the central techniques and methods necessary to achieve therapeutic goals,
(g) how your theory takes into account multicultural considerations and
(h) are there clients for whom your orientation may not be suited. You must cite professional literature in your paper, using at least five sources outside the required textbook, at least one of which must have been written by a major founder of one of the theories from which yours is drawn.
