1. Jacobsen writes: “… all religions, Christianity included, are also deeply shaped by the cultural
containers which hold and support them. (175) … different parts of the world have
tended to develop their own local and regional Christian identities (177).” Your
task is to show how geographic location and all that is related to it, such as local culture, beliefs
and practices, have influenced and continues to influence the kind of Christianity that develops
“where they are.”
2. You must use the Jacobsen text (TWC) AND a minimum of THREE other scholarly sources
(e.g., journal articles, academic books or edited scholarly books — electronic versions are
acceptable). You may add other sources, but there must be good academic grounds for including
them.
3. Choose one of the following topics below to provide a focus and context for your paper and
create an argumentative essay based on your research. It is not imperative that you necessarily
adhere strictly to the exact wording. The point is for the topic to lead you into an essay.
Remember that your most important task is to prove how Christianity is transformed when it
moves to other parts of the world and not how it transforms the place where it exists. Think
in terms of Jacobsen’s “glocalization” which implies indigenization, enculturation, local adaptation
and syncretism (pp. 156ƒ). Find good evidence to support your argument
4. The following 32 topics are provided by the publishers of the course text (TWC), but each
tutorial group member’s selection must be unique. Therefore, it is a first-come, first-served
assignment. Please email your tutorial leader at least three choices in order of priority, in
case your first choice has already disappeared. Please state specifically what your choices are (e.g.,
Ch 9 #b, Ch 12 #d and Ch 11#c). The longer you wait, the fewer choices you will have

Topic Chosen Explain the role of Christianity in the end of apartheid on South Africa.
