SMOKING PROBLEM AMONG ADOLESCENTS IN CANADA

The purpose of this study is to investigate factors that contribute adolescents to start smoking at an early age in Canada and what can be done to arrest the problem. The study will investigate the teens between the age of 15 and 19 years.

According to the Canadian Tobacco Use Monitoring Survey (CTMUS), approximately 233, 000 youths between the age of 15 and 19 years are current smokers as it is indicated by 2012 statistics and this represents 11 percent of this demographic population (Canadian Tobacco Use Monitoring Survey). Smoking is considered to be a leading cause of preventable deaths in Canada and this call for the investigation of the factors that drive teens to smoke at tender age in order to formulate good programs that will address the problem.

The study stated that the parents and the peer pressure a critical role in influencing the adolescents in engaging in smoking behaviors. The individuals the adolescents choose as friends’ plays a critical in influencing him or her to smoke.
