From the standpoint of the fundamentals of leadership, discuss the decision to proceed with the Westport Project by the WA State Government. What practical guidelines arising from this analysis can be applied to improve future decision making by leaders?
Additional info: The Westport Project is the proposed construction of a new port in the outer harbour to cope with growing volumes of container shipping. Other alternatives have been proposed, however, at the end of last year, the WA State Government elected to proceed with the Westport Project. In terms of background, there has been debate for over 20 years on how to deal with growing container volume at the Fremantle Port and its impact on the surrounding area.
This question gives us scope to examine the alternatives posed, as well as the leadership decisions/issues at play in pushing for the Westport project. Additionally, we can examine the following areas (from the learning modules) to see how they influenced the decision: ethics, power & influence, and leadership & motivation.
